Mabton's dirty water problem found, fixed

MABTON - Residents in Mabton were last week complaining of their city water coming out of faucets, hoses and showerheads with brown coloration.

One resident even complained to a local television news station, earning him a television debut to spotlight the issue at hand.

Mabton Mayor Angel Reyna said when the television news reporter approached him, it was the first he had heard of the problem. After assessing the issue with the city's public works manager, Reyna says it was simply time to flush the city's fire hydrants.

At last Tuesday night's Mabton City Council meeting, Reyna said the city began flushing the hydrants this past Monday. The flushing will continue through Friday, Oct. 5.

"We just want to make sure the citizens know what's going on," he said.

Residents with questions or concerns about the flushing process are encouraged to call Mabton City Hall at (509) 894-4096.
