Charter school involvement being explored in Sunnyside

The Sunnyside School District has sent a letter of intent to the Washington State Board of Education to become a charter school authorizer.

District spokesman Curtis Campbell confirmed that the district had sent the letter and said it would be further discussed at the school board meeting on Tuesday, April 30.

"We are not locked in," he said. "That will be hashed out by the board."

A dozen school districts in the state submitted a letter of intent before the April 1 deadline. The districts now have until July 1 to complete the applications.
