Valentina Sanchez, 78, of Sunnyside passed away on Friday, April 5, 2013, surrounded by her loving family. Valentina was born Nov. 3, 1934 in El Venado, San Luis Potosi, Mexico to Macario and Secundina (Ramirez) Hernandez.

On Oct. 27, 1955 she married the love of her life Ernesto C. Sanchez in Burley, Idaho. The couple made their home in the Lower Valley, where Valentina worked in agriculture until she began her career with Twin City Foods in 1979. She worked at Twin City Foods for more than 26 years, before retiring in Jan. 29, 2006.

Valentina cherished her family and loved spending time with them all.

She was a long-time member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sunnyside.

Valentina is survived by her children, Yolanda Sanchez of Kennewick, Maria Luisa Gonzalez of Hermiston, Ore., Leticia Sanchez of Sunnyside, Norma Linda (Alex) Trinidad of Grandview, Alma Delia Good of Kennewick, Dora Sanchez of Enumclaw, Jose Luis Sanchez of Sunnyside, Leonel Sanchez of El Paso, Texas, Juan Sanchez of Sunnyside, and Valentin (Jennifer) Sanchez of Sunnyside; her siblings, Jenaro Hernandez, Leo (Nora) Hernandez and Victor (Vicki) Hernandez, all of Grandview, Joe (Cheryl) Hernandez of Yakima, Bertha (Ramon Sr.) Ramirez of Toppenish, Adelina (Abram Sr.) Ramirez of Moses Lake, Anna (Meadow Sr.) Rodriguez of Sunnyside and Connie (Miguel Sr.) Saldana of Grandview; 22 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Macario and Secundina Hernandez; her loving husband, Ernesto C. Sanchez; her son, Ernesto Sanchez Jr.; her brother, Juan Hernandez; and two grandchildren, Ernesto Sanchez III and Stephanie Nicole Trinidad.

The family of Valentina would like to thank the staff and caregivers at Ruan's Garden for all the care they gave to their mother.

Viewing and visitation will be held Thursday, April 11, 2013, from noon to 8 p.m., with recitation of the Holy Rosary at 6 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home is Sunnyside. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, April 12, 2013, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sunnyside, with burial to follow at Lower Valley Memorial Gardens in Sunnyside.
