MABTON - Just when things were beginning to look up, Mabton sustained another loss.
The Vikings, after posting two consecutive victories, suffered a 3-0 loss to SCAC foe Granger last night.
The Spartans drew first blood 14 minutes into the opening half. Lorenzo Isiordia delivered the ball to teammate Hector Franco, who capitalized on the opportunity.
"We weren't marking up our players and he (Franco) put it away," said Mabton Coach Junior Garcia.
The Vikings tightened the defensive effort and went on the attack. They came up short, however.
"We had some scoring opportunities but didn't put it away," Garcia said.
Mabton wasn't able to finish on four scoring attempts, and Garcia said there were struggles with the passing effort.
Granger, on the other hand, took two more shots at the goal in the closing half and capitalized on both.
Freddy Sojo of the Spartans crossed the ball to Rigo Muniz at the 48-minute mark. Muniz sent the ball into the back of the net.
At the 56-minute mark Muniz delivered the ball between the crossbars again. The assist was provided by Gerardo Ochoa.
"They outplayed us...it was a hard loss," said Garcia.
Mabton (4-8) will need to re-think its strategy before it takes to the pitch at Wahluke tomorrow (Saturday).
Garcia said tomorrow's match-up will require adjustments to the field and the style of play. Wahluke defeated the Vikings earlier this season and he said, "Tomorrow, we will need to adjust to their long field.
"It'll be a hard game."
