Lower Valley Crisis and Support Services in Sunnyside will hold a community fair this coming Friday, April 26, from 1 to 5 p.m. in connection with April being Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
The event is titled "It's Time...to Talk About It! Talk Early. Talk Often. Prevent Sexual Violence."
Leticia Garcia is the director for the Lower Valley agency, and says locally and around the state, individuals, youth, communities, schools and agencies will be taking action to increase awareness about sexual assault and to end sexual violence.
"The issue is critical," she says. "One out of every four girls and one out of every six boys will be sexually abused before the age of 18."
This Friday's event will have several agencies and providers on hand, such as the Crime Victims Service Center, Sunnyside's Promise, Heritage University and Yakima Neighborhood Health.
"It is designed to provide individuals, families and the community the opportunity to learn about resources that are available in the community," says Garcia.
There will also be family-friendly activities during the community informational fair. They include a bouncy house, face painting, raffle items, free hotdogs and beverages.
The community fair is free and open to the public and will be held at Lower Valley Crisis and Support Services at 600 North Ave.
