MABTON - Graduation is looming in 30 days for Mabton's class of 2013, and so far 27 members of that group are on track to graduate.
That's according to information shared last night, Monday, by Mabton High School counselor Lucia Tovar.
She provided the update to the Mabton School Board, noting there are 45 seniors enrolled at the high school. Those who are on track are up to date on their credits and have passed state-mandated tests.
Tovar noted seven Mabton seniors have fulfilled school requirements, but have not passed all of the state-required tests.
The results of most recent state testing will be available May 28, so Tovar notes that it's possible all seven of those students will earn diplomas if they receive a passing mark on the state tests.
In addition, two special education students will walk with the class of 2013.
The other nine students in this year's senior group include four who will not meet credit requirements in time for graduation and five more seniors from 2012 who have returned to the school for another year in an effort to earn their diplomas.
Tovar says the returning seniors likely won't complete their requirements in time for graduation.
Looking ahead to the class of 2014, Tovar says 16 of Mabton's 44 juniors are on track to graduate next spring.
