New Sunnyside School Board director slated to be appointed Friday morning

The appointment of a new Sunnyside School Board director is expected to take place at special meeting that has been called for this coming Friday morning. The Friday, Aug. 2, confab will take place at Sunnyside's Sunny Spot restaurant, starting at 7 a.m. All school board meetings are open to the public. The board is charged with filling the vacant seat that was created last month with the resignation of board president Miguel Puente. Candidates have until the end of today (Thursday) to submit applications for the director's post. Friday's meeting will include conducting a review of the candidates' qualifications for the District 5 seat, then appointing and swearing in the new director. Also on Friday's meeting agenda is a discussion about clarifying the minutes from the July 25 board meeting so they accurately reflect the reason why the directors held an executive session that evening. Other topics to be discussed Friday morning include a future school directors orientation session, a schools superintendent evaluation workshop that is planned and revising the coming school board retreat agenda to include training on Roberts Rules of Order. The agenda for this Friday's specially called meeting also includes a notation that an executive session may be held, if deemed necessary.
