Fatal accident on SR-241 occurs early this morning

The Washington State Patrol has reported that a fatality occurred as the result of a one-vehicle rollover accident just before 1 a.m. this morning (Tuesday).

The site of the deadly mishap was about seven miles north of Sunnyside on SR-241, near milepost 19.

WSP troopers, in issuing a press release about five hours after the accident, declined to list the name of the victim because next of kin had not yet been notified. The WSP did indicate the person who died at the scene was a male.

The vehicle involved in the crash was a 1990 Mercury Cougar.

The investigation by state patrol officials revealed that the car was southbound on SR-241 when it left the roadway at a high rate of speed. The vehicle ended up rolling multiple times, ejecting the driver from the car in the process.

The WSP reports it is unknown if the motorist was wearing a safety restraint, and does not yet know if alcohol or drugs played a part in causing the accident.
