Construction noise still legal at night

The Sunnyside City Council did not come to a conclusion on the proposed amendments to the city’s noise ordinance at Monday night’s meeting.

The goal of the amendments is to prevent construction noise at night. The proposal would alter the allowed hours of construction noise to between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. Currently construction noise is exempt from the city’s noise ordinance.

Council members questioned language in the exemptions clause that would require construction to be in the interest of public safety and convenience in order to be allowed during restricted hours.

The ordinance will go through another review by staff and be brought back to council at a future meeting.
