Grandview to consider marijuana moratorium

GRANDVIEW – Considering how it might establish zoning laws and issue business licenses once Washington state’s legalized marijuana law takes effect, the Grandview City Council plans to consider a moratorium.

A moratorium, said Attor-ney Quinn Plant of Menke Jackson Beyer Ehlis & Harper, would provide the city time to consider adopting zoning ordinances and business license requirements pertaining to the production, sales and use of marijuana.

He said the city, regardless of any action taken, will be contacted by the Washington State Liquor Control Board when an application is under review.

The Grandview council members agreed that a moratorium would provide them an opportunity to research where within the city limits marijuana can be sold or produced in accordance with state law.

No action was taken.
