YAKIMA – Down by 12 points midway through the third quarter, the Lady Greyhound basketball team stormed back to open its season with a 54-51 win over Auburn-Mountainview at the SunDome last Saturday.
Grandview, which led 17-13 after the first quarter but trailed 29-25 at the half, rallied to pull within three points heading into the final eight minutes.
Grandview finally took the lead for good with 1:30 left to play in the game to grab the victory.
“The girls have practiced hard and have been particulary focused in practice,” said Coach David Gibb. “It was nice to get this first game out of the way and to get a win. We played hard.”
Marissa Caballero and Jamila Shafer shared scoring honors for Grandview with 12 points each. Teammate Hannah Pond added 8 points, including a pair of 3-point buckets. Samantha Grove scored 6 points for Grandview.
The Grandview High School Lady Greyhounds return to action at home tomorrow, Tuesday, to play Sunnyside.
