BICKETON – The Pirates had trouble scoring against the Zillah Leopards C squad last night, losing the game 60-45.
“This is a game where we had some growing pains as a team,” said Bickleton Coach Jerry Roberts. “We could not put the ball in the hoop, as evidenced by our shooting percentage. And with 22 turnovers, we didn’t make good decisions on the floor.”
The Zillah squad took advantage of extra chances inside the paint, and from beyond the three-point arc, making seven long-range shots.
For the Bickleton varsity, Nathan Powers again stepped up. He scored half the Pirates’ points, ending up with 23 in the game, and had eight rebounds. He was fouled six times and dropped in seven of his nine tries from the charity stripe.
Clint Strader was the Pirates’ second-leading scorer on the night, bucketing 10 points.
Joe Cardenas and Michael Underwood both dragged down 10 boards for Bickleton, but neither had a good night shooting. Cardenas had a single bucket from the floor and Underwood failed to score.
“The boys played hard and did have moments of good basketball but just not four quarters of it,” said Roberts. “We are a young team and it showed tonight.”
Bickleton (1-2) will host the Granger JV on Saturday, Dec. 14.
