YAKIMA – Bowling in the comfortable confines of its own house, the Selah Vikings swept the Sunnyside Lady Grizzlies yesterday afternoon at Yakima’s Minda Lanes.
Thursday’s 4-0 blanking of the visiting Lady Grizzly bowling squad avenged the loss that Selah sustained last week at Sunnyside’s Valley Lanes.
Spearheading yesterday’s winning attack was the trio of Mikayla Ball, Katelyn Dexter and Rayann Davis. Ball turned in the top two-game series on the day – a 345 – on games of 156-189. Dexter wasn’t far behind, rolling a 321 series on efforts of 164-157. Davis added a 301 series (177-124).
Sunnyside had just two bowlers with 300-plus series. Both seniors, Brianna Esqueda tossed games of 179-155 for a team-high 334 series, and Johanna Chumley totaled a 318 on performances of 147-171.
The host Vikings opened the match with a convincing 755-680 victory. Selah prevailed handily in the second contest, as well, earning a 751-691 decision.
Switching to the Baker format the last two games, in which each member of the five-girl squads alternate taking turns in the 10-frame contests, Selah completed the 4-0 sweep via wins of 169-143 and 170-133.
The SHS girls bowling team is scheduled to participate in a “fun” match against staff members from Sunnyside High School next Tuesday. The Lady Grizzlies will not resume their regular prep schedule until Tuesday, Jan. 7, when the Kennewick Lions roar into town.
