Mabton man shot, killed at party near Grandview

GRANDVIEW – A fight at a party just south of Grandview resulted in two people being shot, one fatally, early Sunday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Carmen Johnson, 20, of Mabton.

Another victim was transported to Sunnyside Community Hospital for a non-life threatening gunshot wound.

The incident started when a small party became a large one thanks to news of the party being spread on social media. Deputies said several hundred people from as far away as White Swan, Yakima and the Tri-Cities had shown up at the party. Most of the party-goers were in their teens or early 20s.

Deputies received a noise complaint about the party at about 1:20 a.m. Sunday morning. The shooting was reported about 2:10 a.m.

Deputies said a fight broke out and multiple shots were fired, resulting in two people being struck by gunfire. Deputies have identified a possible suspect, but ask anyone with information on the incident to contact the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office at 509-574-2500.
