Sunnyside man charged with stabbing his father

This past Saturday afternoon, Yakima County Sheriff deputies were summoned to the 1000 block of East Alexander Road by a report of a stabbing. Before reaching the location, the deputies were flagged down by a motorist transporting the victim of the stabbing to the hospital.

An ambulance was dispatched and transported the victim to the hospital with a non-life threatening stab wound.

While the victim was being tended to, additional units from the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office, the Sunnyside Police Department and Washington State Patrol arrived at the scene of the stabbing and were able to locate and arrest the suspect without further incident.

The suspect, Jose Linares-Rivera, 24, of Sunnyside, was booked into the Yakima County Jail on assault charges. The victim was his father, a 44-year-old Sunnyside area resident. The motive for the stabbing is still unknown.

Linares-Rivera has a long criminal history, according to deputies.

Deputies are also investigating a homicide reported early Sunday morning just south of Grandview.

Since last Friday morning deputies have also responded to two reports of animal problems, five automatic alarms, a report of an assault, a request for a welfare check, a report of suspicious activity, two hit and run accidents, a report of a court order violation, a citizen complaint and a report of shots fired.

In that time deputies also recovered a stolen vehicle and provided assistance to two other agencies.
