MABTON – A program to get parents involved in helping their children graduate was so successful that a second session is planned for January, program coordinator Lucia Tovar told the Mabton School Board Monday night.
The program, which consisted of three sessions, taught parents about graduation requirements, college choices and financial aid for college. At the end of the course, the parents and their students went to UW for a tour.
A parent at the school board meeting testified that before taking the program she did not believe her daughter could go to college because she thought only the children of people who are well-off could afford it. After touring the campus at UW, she now looks forward to her daughter’s future education.
Parents with an interest in the program should contact Mabton High School for more information.
