Perez nabs 100-free win against Chiefs

MOSES LAKE – Ricardo Perez came away with the Sunnyside High School swim team’s lone victory in a dual meet against the Moses Lake Chiefs Thursday afternoon. Competing in the 100-yard freestyle, Perez dusted the competition with a clocking of 55.84 seconds. The best Moses Lake could muster was runner-up Brian Bateman’s 1:04.40 clocking. SHS’s Adrian Moreno was third (1:05.74).

Team-wise, the Chiefs bested the SHS boys squad, 135-34. The Grizzlies, who will be out of action until their Jan. 9 meet against Wenatchee at Yakima’s Lions Pool, are now 0-4 on the season in heads-up matches.

The one other highlight for Sunnyside from yesterday’s meet was Fox Rodriguez’s second-place finish from a five-swimmer field in the 100-yard breaststroke. Rodriguez set a time of 1:11.55, bested only by Moses Lake’s Kaelan Connacher (1:10.44).
