Sunnyside police investigating reported kidnapping

Sunnyside police are investigating a report of a possible kidnapping of a Sunnyside man, who reportedly had been held captive for more than three days.

“We are handling this as a possible kidnapping and are examining his statement,” said Sunnyside Police Sgt. Jeff Cunningham.

The victim reported he has been taken by a male suspect and placed in the back of a vehicle. The victim told police he was later released near the Toppenish casino, from where he was able to get help and secure a ride home.

Cunningham said the victim waited half a day before filing his complaint yesterday evening (Thursday).

In other activities reported during the past 24 hours, Sunnyside police investigated three reports of suspicious circumstances, handled two traffic incidents, a trespassing report, two business alarms, a residential alarm and an animal complaint.

Police also took information about a missing person, who was later found, one domestic report and recovered a reported stolen vehicle.

Officers also provided one agency assist, served one arrest warrant, provided a citizen assist and made a welfare check.
