GRANDVIEW - Fred E. Hayes American Legion Post #57 in Grandview has begun its "Penny a Day in February" fundraising effort to benefit Operation Comfort Warriors.
"The first week of the American Legion's penny a day in February fundraiser for Operation Comfort Warriors has resulted in very generous contributions," said Adjutant Jim Davidson.
He said there have been requests for drop-off locations and two Grandview businesses have volunteered to serve in that capacity.
They include Eli & Kathy's Drive-Inn and the Grandview Herald.
Anyone wishing to donate money via check can mail donations to the post at P.O. Box 56, Grandview, WA 98930.
Also being accepted are large coin donations. Davidson will arrange for pick-up when donors call him at 882-1984.
All proceeds from the fundraiser will be used for providing comfort items to wounded men and women serving in the armed forces.
"The Warrior Transition unit at Joint Base Lewis-McChord has been a major recipient of funds from this project through the American Legion," said Davidson.
He said, "We have been very surprised at the response so far."
