Guadalupe Alvarez Garcia, 85, of Sunnyside passed away on Monday, Feb. 11, 2013, in Richland.
Guadalupe was born May 11, 1927 in Mira Flores, Tamaulipas, Mexico to Jose and Soledad (Guerrero) Alvarez. She received her early education in Mexico.
In 1942 she married Antonio Garcia Garcia in Mexico. A few months later they moved to make their home in Edinburg, Texas. In her later years she migrated to several Northwestern states. They made their home permanently in Sunnyside in 1965.
Guadalupe was a dedicated loving wife and homemaker for her family.
She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, cooking, telling stories of her younger days and spending time with her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Guadalupe was a member of the Crusillitas and the Guild of Guadalupanas. She was also a life-long member of the Catholic church.
Guadalupe is survived by her children, Enrique (Sylvia) Alvarez and Dolores Villanueva, both of Grandview, Jesus (Michelle) Garcia of San Antonio, Texas, and Dora Elia (Benjamin) Barreras of Sunnyside; 18 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Maria de Jesus and Concepcion Alvarez; brother, Juan Alvarez; and daughters- in-law, Alicia Garcia and Victoria Garcia.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Antonio Garcia Garcia; her children, Jose Francisco Garcia, Eberardo Garcia, Blanca Estella Garcia, Berta Garcia and Maria Eva Rubio; three grandchildren Eloy Fernandez, Marco Antonio Villanueva and Janelle Villanueva; her siblings, Santos Alvarez, Solio Alvarez and Inez Fonseca; and son-in-law, Antonio Alardin Villanueva.
Viewing and visitation will be held Monday, Feb. 18, 2013, from 2 to 8 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyside, with recitation of the Holy Rosary at 6 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sunnyside, with burial to follow at Lower Valley Memorial Gardens in Sunnyside.
