Yakima County commissioners award weather station bid to Moses Lake firm

YAKIMA - The Yakima County commissioners this past Tuesday approved a bid for a new weather station.

The weather station will be installed at Glade and Matsen roads by Neppel Electrical & Controls, LLC of Moses Lake at the estimated cost of just more than $12,800.

Other bids submitted by Knobel's Electric, Inc. of Yakima, Bestebreur Bros. Construction, Inc. of Sunnyside and Shannon Industrial Contractors, Inc. of Coeur d'Alene exceeded $15,900.

The engineer's estimate for the installation of the weather station was less than $10,000.

Commissioner Rand Elliott said, "The county operates a number of small weather stations to keep an eye on road conditions."

He said the weather stations primarily help Yakima County determine which roadways are in need of snow removal during the winter months.

The commissioners approved the bid submitted by Neppel Electrical & Controls, LLC by a 3-0 vote.
