Making a New Year's resolution has never been my thing.
It's too easy to wildly promise myself the world, and then forget about it a few weeks later.
This year, however, I have had a little help. My boyfriend and I began the attempt to get healthy this past November by joining a gym and eating healthier. We're even attempting to quit smoking, a feat which I've completed for nearly two weeks now.
To add to the commitment to a healthier me, a few of my coworkers and I are participating in a weight-loss challenge against one another.
There's something about a competition that really gets me going. I clearly want to be healthier, but winning is the icing on my non-fat non-cake.
Aside from regular visits to the gym, counting calories and the occasional Zumba class, I'm also trying to make sure I get enough rest. Resting is one of those pesky things we often forget, especially in the go, go world of community journalism.
Hydrating is another one of those blasted necessities that is often forgotten. If you begin providing your body with the right nutrients and exercise, but forget the water, it may just as well be all for naught.
So if you're like me and you're trying to find a healthier you, don't forget the necessities in life like eating, sleeping and drinking...water.
Here's to a healthier us, and my trophy coming this April. Any tips to my future win will be much appreciated.
