After a brief battle with lung cancer, Charles "Chuck" Sartain, surrounded by his loving family, left this world to be with his heavenly Father on Monday, Jan. 7, 2013.
Chuck graduated from Sunnyside High School in 1969. Shortly thereafter he married and had Nicole Leigh Sartain, his first-born child.
In August of 1974 he married the love of his life, Laurel Charvet, and together they had three children, Danielle Lynn, Michael Clayton and Neil Young Sartain.
Chuck worked in the construction industry for most of his adult life. He began his career with Mountain States Construction, where he fine-tuned his skills to become an accomplished carpenter and superintendent. After several years, as a successful general superintendent and administrator, he was a founder of Reklaim Industries, and built one of the first tire recycling plants in the U.S.
Unknown to most people, Chuck was an artist, philosopher, and poet. He shared his love for the arts, including music and literature, with his family and close friends.
He is survived by his father, Albert Lee (Ellen) Sartain; his brothers, Vernon (Sue) and Rick (Kathy); sister, Kim (Kal) Fuller; his daughters, Nicole (Gary) Walker and Danielle (James) Hayden; his sons, Michael Sartain, and Neil Sartain; and seven grandchildren, Hailey Walker, Braden Walker, Michael Sartain, Gunner Sartain, Dominic Sartain, Asher Sartain and Raileigh Sartain.
Chuck was preceded in death by his mother, Zaida (Fordyce) Snow; and his sister, Kathy (Sartain) Menshew.
The family would like to give thanks to Lower Valley Farm Workers Clinic in Grandview, as well as Lower Valley Hospice for their incredible care and support.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, at 1 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyside.
