Sunnyside nabs first win

EASTMONT - With just five swimmers on the roster last night, the Sunnyside High School Grizzlies came away with a two-point victory over Eastmont, 60-58.

The foursome of Adrian Moreno, Alex Perez, Mathew Marquez and Fox Rodriguez took home first place honors in the 200-yard medley relay (1:44.70) and the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:33.70).

On top of the Grizzlies' first win this season, Marquez (1:06.25) and Moreno (1:08.45) also notched lifetime bests in the 100-yard freestyle race, nabbing themselves second and third place honors, respectively.

Moreno also earned himself top honors in the 50-yard freestyle race with a time of 29.26.

Marquez earned third place honors in the 100-yard breaststroke race, with a time of 1:26.75. Coming in with top honors in that race was Rodriquez, who finished the race in 1:16.98.

"The guys did great and really represented their school well today," Sunnyside Coach Carl Scott said.

Adding to the Grizzly win yesterday was Perez's first-place performance in the 100-yard 'fly. Perez tagged the end of the pool in 1:05.39. Also adding to the team score in that race was Carlos Lopez, who notched third place honors in 1:48.78.

The Grizzlies next compete in Federal Way at the Kentridge Invitational this coming Saturday.
