Sunnyside residents given temporary relief from rate hike

Of four increases to Sunnyside residents' utility bills included in the 2013 Sunnyside budget, two of them will not be implemented in January, according to Sunnyside City Manager Frank Sweet.

Sweet said at Sunnyside's City Council meeting Monday night that studies on the 3 percent water and sewer rate increases had not been completed, so those rates will remain the same for January bills.

The other two increases still need to be approved by city council but will still be reflected on January utility bills, said Sweet. Utility taxes will increase from 6 percent to 18 percent and the ambulance fee will more than double to $8.28 per month for each residential unit.
