Greyhounds recover from three-match losing streak

GRANDVIEW - After suffering three losses this month to Othello, Selah and Toppenish, the Grandview wrestling team needed a win.

The Greyhounds got that win last night against East Valley, 50-15.

"We finally got most of our line-up back and it helped to get us back on the winning track," said Grandview Coach Jeff Sevigny.

He said he was pleased to see the team clinch a victory after suffering the losses that followed winter break.

Fidel Medina, at 113 lbs., was the first Greyhound on the mat last night. He pinned Berkley Aguilar in 3:03.

Jo Jo Cisneros-Valdez of Grandview earned a 10-6 decision over East Valley's Daid Mata in 120-lb. action, and Diego Castaneda (126 lbs.) continued the momentum for the 'Hounds, pinning Austin Mitchell in just 37 seconds.

Red Devil Ricardo Rodriguez lost by technical fall (17-0) to Grandview's Jaron Raymond in the 132-lb. bout, and Grandview's Joesiah Saunders (145 lbs.) subdued East Valley's Tegan De Ochoa by pin in 49 seconds.

The Red Devils gave up four matches by way of forfeit.

East Valley did prevail in three matches, however.

Jose Castilleja of Grandview lost by way of pin to Logan Merkle (152 lbs.) in 41 seconds.

Greyhound A.J. Valenzuela, in 170-lb. action, suffered a loss by a pin in 3:48 to Anton Yates of East Valley, and in the 195-lb. weight class Adrian Magana lost a 9-8 decision to Oscar Martinez of the Red Devils.

Grandview, 5-3 in CWAC action, will close out the regular season tomorrow (Thursday) at home against Wapato.
