PASCO - In a rare dual meet for the Sunnyside High School girls wrestling team, the Lady Grizzlies came up on the short end of the stick last night at Pasco.
The Bulldogs, victorious in six bouts - all by way of pin, claimed a 36-17 victory.
Sunnyside walked away from the Pasco mat with three wins of its own, though. One came by way of forfeit, that claimed by 112-pounder Kayla Gonzalez.
The Lady Grizzlies' two other winners proved to be Daisy Chavez (124 lbs.) and Jessica Cardenas (170 lbs.).
Chavez notched a 15-0 technical fall against her Pasco opponent. Coach Rick Sambrano, filling in for Coach Terry Shines because of family illness, said Chavez turned the Bulldog onto her back three different times in the match, picking up near fall points on all three occasions.
Cardenas earned her victory by pinning her 170-lb. foe. Sambrano said Cardenas scored a quick takedown and promptly rolled the Bulldog onto her back. Sambrano said the Lady Grizzly grappler got the fall in under a minute.
The six Lady Grizzlies who lost by way of pin last night included Adriana Chavez (106 lbs.), Claudia Rivera (118 lbs.), Megan Casseday (130 lbs.), Yanelli Alcala (137 lbs.), Monique Gil (145 lbs.) and Amanda Bazan (155 lbs.).
The SHS girls wrestling squad won't return to action until Saturday, Feb. 2, at the Sub-Regional tournament, to be staged at Highland High School.
