Kestrel Vintners hosts Red Wine & Chocolate event Valentine's weekend

PROSSER - Valentine's Day is just around the corner and not everyone can treat their sweetheart on that special day, a Thursday.

Never fear...there is plenty to do on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 16-17. The weekend can be made special with a short trip to Prosser for Red Wine & Chocolate weekend.

Prosser's Kestrel Vintners will be hosting an event from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day, featuring chocolate treats paired with specialty wines.

Dark chocolate pasta tossed in a creamy bacon alfredo will be paired with the winery's 2008 Mourvedre wine. Also being featured will be a flourless bittersweet chocolate cake with a Port wine reduction sauce and the winery's 2009 Port wine.

There is no fee for passport holders who have purchased tickets for Yakima Valley's Red Wine and Chocolate event via Wine Yakima Valley. Those who do not have a passport can purchase a glass from the Kestrel Vintners for $5 and enjoy all the delightful treats being offered at no additional charge.

The one thing being served that will be available for a nominal purchase price will be salted caramels in dark chocolate cups, according to the winery.

Also featured at Kestrel Vintners will be poet Jordan Chaney, who recently released his book, Rocket Fuel for Dreamers. He will be offering copies of the book for purchase and will be available to sign copies for interested individuals.

For those wishing to beat the crowds, a sneak peek of all that will be offered throughout the weekend will also be possible on Friday, Feb. 15.
