Talent showcase slated for Jan. 31

Sunnyside High School performers are joining forces to showcase the wide variety of talent at their school.

As part of Tara Van Corbach's senior project, she wants to give her fellow student performers a platform to show off their skills. And, a little extra cash doesn't hurt, either.

"I wanted to highlight the performing arts in our school," Van Corbach said. "Funding for these groups is sometimes hard to come by."

So this SHS senior is doing something about it. In addition to showing off her classmates' unlimited pool of talent with an evening for the dance and rally squad teams, along with the orchestra, band and drama students to perform, the evening will also serve as a fundraising event. The showcase of talent is slated for next Thursday, Jan. 31, at 7 p.m. in the SHS auditorium.

"Since I'm part of some of these groups, too, I wanted to leave them with something as I get ready to graduate," Van Corbach added.

Admission to the event, titled "In the Spotlight," is $5, and all proceeds collected at the event will be evenly split among the five student groups.

Van Corbach says she's just glad she can do a little something to give back to the groups she's been a part of for the last four years.
