On the road all weekend, the undefeated Sunnyside Christian Lady Knights proved again that they are the team to beat in the Greater Columbia Gorge 1B league.
Last Friday the Lady Knights journeyed to Trout Lake and soundly defeated the Mustangs by a score of 94-36.
"They weren't able to stop many of the things we tried," said Sunnyside Christian Coach Al Smeenk. "We shot very well during the game."
The Lady Knights were 39-for-52 from the field. Kara den Hoed led the Lady Knights in scoring with 25 points. Stormee Van Belle bucketed another 22 points while Kara Banks scored 18.
"This was a game where every girl played every quarter and everyone scored," said Smeenk. "But there weren't many rebounds. We didn't miss many and they didn't shoot much."
Also scoring in double digits for Sunnyside Christian was Rita Dalrymple with 11 points. Brittany Broersma and Annie Brouwer each bucketed 8 points and Melissa Dalrymple added the final 2 points for the Lady Knights.
Sunnyside Christian took their game to Lyle-Wishram on Saturday and again dominated. The Lady Knights beat the Cougars 73-17 in the game.
"We always challenge ourselves," said Smeenk. "We always play hard. We don't want to run the score up, but we always give our best."
Den Hoed again led the scoring for the Lady Knights with 25 points. Rita Dalrymple contributed another 11 and Van Belle had a relatively low scoring game with only 10 points.
"Once again, everyone played every quarter and everyone scored," said Smeenk. "We want to make a statement that we're the team to beat."
Smeenk said the team's next game will be at home tomorrow, Jan. 29, against DeSales.
"We've played them before, they're a tough team to beat," he said. "We're really looking forward to the game. It will be fun."
