Three citizens have stepped forward and applied for the seat on the Sunnyside City Council vacated by Mike Farmer earlier this month: Dean Broersma, Sam Ramirez and Trish Combs.
The position in District 2 will run until the end of this year after the new councilor is approved by the council.
The council has tentatively set a schedule that would result in both this position and the vacancy in District 4 being filled by Monday, March 25. The city is accepting applications for the District 4 vacancy until Friday, March 8.
Dean Broersma is a small business owner and former Spanish teacher at Sunnyside Christian High School. He is currently on the board of Sunnyside Christian School and has worked with Transformation Sunnyside Yakima Valley on the Loving Sunnyside Initiative.
Sam Ramirez is a dedicated educator who has worked in the Sunnyside School District since 2001. Ramirez has owned three businesses in Sunnyside and served for two terms on the Sunnyside Parks and Recreation Commission.
Patricia Combs is a clinic manager at Sunnyside Community Hospital, president of the Sunnyside Lions Club and a business owner. She is the co-director of Sunnyside Arts and Sports Association, volunteer co-director of Sunnyside Parks and Recreation and co-director of Unlock Your Dreams.
