Local bar shut down after police say they discover handguns

Last Saturday morning at about 1:15 a.m., Sunnyside cops along with liquor control board officials conducted spot checks at Tequilas, located in the 500 block of South Sixth Street in Sunnyside. Officers say they located two handguns inside the establishment, in the back room of the bar, inside cases.

Police say due to laws regarding firearms inside bars, the bar was shut down for the evening. Officials say the incident is now under Washington State Liquor Control Board investigation.

Continuing busy weekend calls, Sunnyside police officers last Saturday morning at approximately 8:15 a.m. were alerted to a reported theft in the 1400 block of Irving Avenue. Officers say the resident reported a vehicle on the property was found open and a car stereo cover was missing. No further details on the incident were provided.

Saturday afternoon, at 1:45 p.m., officers took a report of a lost phone at the Wal-Mart store in Sunnyside.

Officers also stopped one individual from eluding them at about 11:40 a.m. on Sunday morning. Officers say the incident began near North 16th Street and East Yakima Valley Highway. Officials located the eluding individual in the 400 block of McClain Drive and say they took one adult female into custody.

Officers also fielded a theft report in the 1400 block of Jackson Avenue on Sunday. Officers say the resident reported items missing from a vehicle on the property Sunday evening, at about 9 p.m.

In addition, Sunnyside police officers have handled nine informational calls, 17 traffic problems, six suspicious circumstances and eight agency assistance requests since last Friday.

Calls for service to the Sunnyside Police Department over the weekend also involved three automatic alarms, three animal complaints, two civil problems, two juvenile problems, two reports of lost property, two loud music complaints, three parking problems, two citizen assistance requests, two arrest warrants served and three welfare check requests. Officers also fielded calls reporting an assault, a citizen dispute, disorderly conduct, domestic violence, a missing person, a runaway juvenile, threats, trespassing and found property.
