School retirees urged to join local group

Any certified or classified employee who has worked in a school district in the state of Washington can join the Washington State School Retirees Association, whether they served as a superintendent, a school nurse, a teacher, a bus driver or in any other capacity.

In honor of all those retired employees, the Washington State School Retirees Association will celebrate School Retirees Appreciation Week Monday, March 18, through Sunday, March 24.

The organization aims to enhance the security and vitality of retirement years for retired school employees and welcomes anyone interested in joining the group. The organization provides pro-retiree and pro-education advocacy and leadership to the Washington state legislature.

The Lower Yakima Valley Unit of the Washington State School Retirees Association meets on the second Tuesday of each month at the Vineyard in Grandview.

Programs planned for future meetings include a container gardening presentation by Bill's Berry Farm and a presentation to grant recipients.
