OBITUARY

MARY JEAN PETERSON

Mary Jean Peterson, 89, of Grandview passed away on Sunday, March 17, 2013.

Mary Jean "Babe" Peterson was born March 9, 1924 in Bainbridge Island, the daughter of Ralph "Jack" and Ellen (Hansen) Day. She was the youngest of five girls.

In 1930 she moved to the family farm in Grandview at the Belma District. She attended Belma School and graduated from Sunnyside High School in 1942.

On Jan. 1, 1946 she married Lewis "Bill" Peterson. Bill had just returned from being in a Japanese Prisoner of War camp in WWII. Bill stayed in the Navy and they were stationed at several Naval Air Stations; including two years in the Philippines, until he retired in 1959. After retirement, they lived in Grandview, Seattle and Port Orchard.

Bill died on July 4, 1990. Babe moved to Grandview in 1994.

She was an early member of the Presbyterian Church, Eagles Fraternal Order of Office and a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary.

Three special nieces, Cheryl DeVoe, Kay Klashke and Deb Bos helped take care of "Aunt Babe".

Babe is survived by one sister, Phyllis Cooper of Bainbridge Island; several cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and three sisters, Ethel Sinclair, Velma Moran and Vivian Robert.

Thank you to Orchard House in Grandview, Lower Valley Hospice and Prestige Care and Rehabilitation for the "special care" they gave Mary Jean.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Prosser VFW #3207, Ladies Auxiliary or Lower Valley Hospice.
