OBITUARY

MARTIN CARL JONGSMA

Martin Carl Jongsma, 78, left to be with his heavenly Father on Tuesday, March 19, 2013.

He was born May 25, 1934 in Artesia, Calif., the youngest son of Andrew and Jessie (Sterk) Jongsma, and brother of Harold and Gertie (Spyksma) Jongsma.

He served his country through the National Guard.

On May 27, 1955 he married Evelyn Lautenbach and began their married life in the dairy business. Two daughters were born in California, before they moved to Everson in 1959, where two sons followed.

His spirit of adventure brought them to Sunnyside in 1973 to continue dairying. Martin continued his business ventures in telecommunications and plastic recycling when they moved to Springfield, Ore. in 1990.

Martin's greatest passion, after his family, was fishing, hunting and passing that love on to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. "The Ducks,' storytelling, and hats were also high on that list."

Martin is survived by his wife of 58 years, Evelyn; children, Sharon (Rick) Morris of Springfield, Johnny (Teresa Dorosh) Jongsma of Eugene, Ore., Karen (Albert) Don of Prosser, and Jerry (Kristi Brock) Jongsma of Sunnyside; 18 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.

All services are to be at Springfield Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home.

Visitation will be held for Tuesday, March 26, 2013, from 4 to 7 p.m. Memorial services will be held Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at 1 p.m., with graveside services at 2 p.m. Luncheon will follow at 8067 Thurston Rd., Springfield, OR, 97478.
