MOSES LAKE - The only Class 3A team in the six-school 4A Columbia Basin Big Nine League, Sunnyside finished fourth in the standings in boys golf.
The Grizzlies wrapped up league play this past Tuesday at the par-72 Moses Lake Country Club. Sunnyside, despite missing its ace - Chandler Luther - from the line-up, posted the fifth low team score at the match.
The host Chiefs emerged with top honors at the final conference match, tallying a team score of 324. Moses Lake was led by Kellan Roellich, who claimed medalist honors with a 6-over-par 78. Roellich was the only golfer Tuesday to shoot a sub-80 round.
Eastmont and Wenatchee tied for second with identical team scores of 355. Eisenhower placed fourth with an aggregate 375, and Sunnyside was fifth with a 390. The Davis Pirates brought up the rear at the fifth and final league match of the season.
The Grizzlies' low scorer Tuesday was Ian Heffron. The only Sunnyside golfer to record a birdie on his scorecard, that coming on the 548-yard, par-5 ninth hole, Heffron tallied a 92 for his 18-hole round. He went 48-44 on the front and back nines, respectively.
Three strokes back of Heffron was teammate Brandon Daley. He totaled a 95 on front and back nine scores of 46-49.
Rounding out the team scoring for Sunnyside were Nathan Meyer (53-45 - 98) and Ethan Partch (52-53 - 105).
The SHS boys golf team returns to the links on Monday, May 13, at Pasco's Sun Willows Golf Course, the site of the opening round of this year's 3A District golf tournament. Day two action on Tuesday, May 14, will be at Kennewick's Canyon Lakes Golf Course.
