With Fastenal set to move into a portion of its building next month, the Port of Sunnyside is gearing up for the company's arrival.
Last night, Monday, Port of Sunnyside commissioners approved a contract with Ag Pro Repair and Fabrication of Sunnyside to prepare the back portion of the port office building on Emerald Road.
The contract, valued at $7,860, calls for installing interior walls in the port's office building.
The work is needed because in addition to the Port of Sunnyside business office, the former Horizon building also houses the YV-Tech nursing program on a temporary basis.
"The needed separation of areas will be critical for joint tenants," Executive Director Jay Hester noted in comments to commissioners on Monday night.
The port approved the lease with Fastenal last month. The company will move from its store across from the high school to the port's location at the end of June.
The five-year lease calls for Fastenal to pay $1,770 per month to rent a 2,950 square-foot warehouse and office space. For another $1,000 a month, Fastenal will have the option to lease YV-Tech's space when it moves to a permanent location in about eight months.
In response to a question from Commissioner Jeff Matson, Hester said the interior walls can be removed later depending on the future needs of the port's tenants.
The Port of Sunnyside's next meeting will be Monday, May 20, at 5:15 p.m. at the port's office at 2640 E. Edison Ave.
