Fatal crash results in criminal charges

Rigoberto Hinojosa Rivera, 36, of Grandview has been charged with vehicular homicide connected with a fatal rollover accident that occurred the morning of March 19.

According to a witness, the car driven by Rivera was speeding on Van Belle Road. Rivera, whom WSP troopers reported was behind the wheel of the vehicle, lost control while passing a semi truck and went off the roadway. The driver and passengers were ejected when the vehicle rolled.

A passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. Rivera and another passenger both sustained serious injuries and were transported to Sunnyside Community Hospital, with Rivera being airlifted to Harborview Medical Center.

A blood sample from Rivera came back positive for methamphetamine, according to police. Rivera suffered serious chest injuries and lost his left arm in the accident.
