Sunnyside man guilty of raping 14-year-old girl

A 21-year-old Sunnyside man was convicted yesterday, Wednesday, of raping a child in the third degree.

David Rabanales-Perez pled guilty to the charge and will be sentenced July 17.

According to court documents, Rabanales-Perez met the 14-year-old victim last June at the Sunnyside Community Center. Rabanales-Perez was a receptionist and janitor at the community center. At a dance on June 22, the two exchanged phone numbers. A week later the defendant had sex with the victim, then the two had multiple sexual encounters both at the center and elsewhere.

Rabanales-Perez denied the allegations and claimed he had only called or texted the victim about 10 times and not had any contact with the victim outside the community center. A search warrant was obtained for the cell phone the girl used and more than 800 messages from Rabanales-Perez were found.
