Shooting range plans approved

YAKIMA – Yakima County commissioners this past Tuesday approved plans to construct a shooting range for law enforcement training.

Yakima County law enforcement officers have been using facilities at the Yakima Training Center, but coordinating schedules became difficult, according to officials.

A long-term plan for two 25-yard pistol ranges, a 50-yard handgun/shotgun range and a rifle range have been developed.

Given budget constraints, officials are seeking to limit the current phase of the construction to the 25 and 50-yard ranges at the cost of $250,000.

Yakima County commissioners approved the plan and authorized the advertisement for bids by a 3-0 vote.
