ELLENSBURG – The Grandview High School girls swim team qualified for just one finals event at last Saturday’s District 5-7 meet on the Central Washington University campus in Ellensburg.
The GHS quartet of Taylor Ebbelaar, Abby Cromwell, Viannei Perez and Jaelei Grant made it to the finals in the 200-yard medley relay. The foursome ended up posting the sixth fastest time from among the eight teams in the finals, a clocking of 2:27.09. A squad from Pullman won the race in 1:56.24.
Overall at Districts, Grandview finished ninth from the 13-school field. The Lady ‘Hounds amassed 66 points.
Ellensburg claimed the team title at the District meet with 333 points. The West Valley Rams were a close second with 317 points.
Perez, Cromwell, Grant and Ebbelaar, besides making it to the finals in the 200-medley relay, qualified for the consolation finals in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The foursome came out on top in that heat, swimming to a clocking of 2:09.48. The winning finals time in that event was 1:52.82, set by a team from Cheney.
Grandview Coach Rita Uribe said the Lady Greyhounds performed well at District.
“Our season is now done, but I am very proud of them,” she said.
“They all improved a great deal over the season and will be strong competitors next year with us having such a young team,” she added.
