TOPPENISH – The Sunnyside Christian Lady Knights finished out the regular season with a victory against the Yakama Tribal Eagles in three sets last Friday, 25-2, 25-8, 25-8.
The victory gives Sunnyside Christian a league best 10-0 record, 14-0 overall for the season, as well as a top seed at Districts.
“We played well as a team tonight,” Lady Knights Coach Stephanie Dalrymple said of last Friday’s match. “We served well, which helped us stay in control of the match.”
Three Lady Knights had perfect serving performances from three players. McKenzie Benjert was 11-for-11, Brittany Broersma went 9-for-9 and Katelyn Banks was 7-for-7. Also contributing with strong serving were Taylor Stoutjesdyk, who was 13-for-15, and Stormee Van Belle who went 19-for-21 from the service line.
The Lady Knights had their passing down as well, with Annie Brouwer contributing five perfect passes and Broersma adding another eight perfect passes.
Lady Knights assisted each other on the court, with Aydan Harrington and Emily Werkhoven both tallying five assists, Benjert adding another seven assists and Banks contributing four more assists.
Broersma led the team with seven kills at the net. Both Banks and Van Belle each had four kills in the match.
The Lady Knights will be opening District tourney play Saturday, Nov. 9, in Goldendale at 10 a.m. Sunnyside Christian will be playing the winner of the Bickleton vs. Lyle playoff match, which will be held tomorrow night (Tuesday) in Klickitat, starting at 6 p.m.
