Garcia draws six years in prison for shooting Mabton man in July 2012

YAKIMA – Yakima County Superior Court Judge David Elofson yesterday (Wednesday) sentenced Adrian Garcia, 19, of Mabton to six years in prison for shooting Jesus Gastelum of Mabton on July 24, 2012.

Garcia, said officials, led police on a pursuit following the incident that took place over a dispute over money owed for vehicle parts.

Gastelum was initially transported to Sunnyside Community Hospital to be treated for a gunshot wound to the abdomen. Because of the severity of the wound, he was later taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

Garcia pled guilty to second degree assault. He was given a sentence of up to six years in prison, as well as another 18 months community service.

Elofson also signed a no-contact harassment order, preventing Garcia from contacting Gatelum.
