G'view teen pleads not guilty in case involving car wreck that claimed two teens' lives

GRANDVIEW – The driver of a car involved in an accident that killed two 16-year-old Grandview boys has pleaded not guilty to two counts of vehicular manslaughter.

Jovannie Jonpaul Razo was arraigned yesterday and will learn Friday, Nov. 22, if his case will be going to trial. A jury trial is tentatively scheduled for next January.

Razo, say police, was driving the night of Jan. 8 when the vehicle failed to negotiate a curve while traveling eastbound on Evans Road and came to rest almost vertical and upside-down against a tree. The cause of the crash was determined by the Benton County Sheriff’s office to be excessive speed.

Passenger Kevin Lopez-Gonzalez, 16, of Grandview died at the scene of the accident. Passenger Carlos Ochoa, 16, of Grandview was transported to Kadlec Regional Medical Center, where he died approximately two hours after the accident.

Razo himself was critically injured in the crash.
