Utility increases lower than thought

GRANDVIEW – In 2009, Grandview engineers projected water and sewer rate increases would be 6 percent each year through 2014.

The good news is water and sewer rate increases for 2014 approved last week will not be as high as projected.

Engineer Ted Pooler of Huibreg-tse, Louman Associates said revenues are up and expenditures are down.

Because of this, the city will increase water rates by just 2 percent and sewer rates by just 4 percent.

“This brings us closer to the rate of inflation sooner than original projections,” said Pooler.

The Grandview City Council approved two ordinances setting the new rates by 5-0 votes.
