Hands on learning

Sunnyside High School science teachers Joyce Stark and Teri Alvarez-Ziegler took students from the honors biology class to the MESA (Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement) Medical Conference recently at Columbia Basin Community College. In the photo directly above, students attach a defibrillator to a dummy. The conference, an opportunity for students to interact with career professionals, included workshops on occupational therapy, speech therapy, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, paramedics, nursing, music therapy, intensive care units, optometry and radiology.
