Two Sunnyside homes struck by gunfire

Sunnyside police are asking anyone with information about an early Saturday morning shooting, which occurred in the 1000 block of South 11th Street, to call the Sunnyside police detectives at 836-6211.

At this point the details are a bit sketchy regarding the shooting, according to Sgt. Joey Glossen.

He said two houses in the neighborhood were hit by gunfire at about 1:30 a.m. Saturday morning. No one was injured at either house, but more than 10 shots were fired, awakening the neighborhood.

At this point the police have no leads or indications as to why those houses were targeted, Glossen said. The houses are not known for gang activity and there were no loud parties reported in the area.

“Everyone in the houses appeared to be sleeping according to our officers’ reports,” said Glossen.

In other weekend activity, police officers investigated seven malicious mischief reports, nine reports of suspicious circumstances, made 11 traffic stops, responded to four business alarms and two residential alarms.

Officers also handled one animal complaint, two reports of disorderly conduct, two domestic reports and two incidents involving intoxicated individuals. Sunnyside officers also served four arrest warrants and made seven citizen assists since last Friday.
