GRANDVIEW – The parks and rec department in Grandview, in conjunction with HoopStar Basketball, will be teaming up to provide a holiday hoop camp on Sunday and Monday, Dec. 22-23, at the Grandview Community Center.
The camp is open to both boys and girls who are currently in kindergarten through third grades, with the emphasis being on fundamentals, game knowledge and fun.
The program fee is $10 per youth (in-city residents) and $15 per youth (non-city residents). Space is limited, so parents are encouraged to register their child at the Grandview Parks and Recreation office, located in the Grandview Community Center during a weekday prior to the start of camp.
Kindergarteners and first graders will participate on Sunday from 1 to 2:30 p.m. and Monday from 10 to 11:30 a.m.
Camp hours for second and third graders will be from 3 to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday and from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday.
Youngsters are encouraged to bring a filled water bottle, gym shoes and gym clothing each day. Basketballs will be provided for camp participant to use, however, hoopsters can bring their own basketball with their name on it as an option.
Cara Childress, owner of HoopStar Basketball, will be volunteering her time as the main camp instructor. Childress played four years of varsity basketball for the Grandview Greyhounds and graduated in 1999. She is the daughter of Grandview Mayor Norm Childress.
