Dinner and drama program for kids gets underway Oct. 9

A program to introduce local children to theater and music in a faith-based setting is being offered by the Sunnyside Presbyterian Church.

Beginning Wednesday, Oct. 9, the church leaders will offer an evening “Dinner and Drama” program, which will allow children to have a light supper, learn a craft or game and begin rehearsals for a play the children will ultimately present to the community.

“Last year we had between 15 and 20 children involved in the program,” said Rev. Katie Haney of the Sunnyside Presbyterian Church.

“We began the program as part of a youth outreach and found it so successful, we decided to offer it again this year,” Haney explained.

“This year we hope to involve even more children,” she said.

The program will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Wednesday of the month at the church, 737 S. 16th St.

Haney said the program is open to all children in first through fifth grades. There is a $20 fee to cover the cost of food and craft materials, she added.

The children will be performing “Jonah and the Whale,” a western-themed musical directed by Ryan Wyatt of Sunnyside.
