WAPATO – Two Susana Arreola goals in a span of three minutes were more than enough to spark the 3A Sunnyside Lady Grizzly soccer team to a 4-0 whipping of host 2A Wapato last night.
Arreola scored her goals in the sixth and ninth minutes of play and on both tallies she picked up an errant Wapato pass and made the Wolves pay.
Sunnyside led Thursday night’s non-league match 2-0 at the break, but didn’t put it away until the final 20 minutes.
In the 61st minute Karina Perez assisted Vianca Madrigal on a goal to make it 3-0, and the duo teamed up eight minutes later on the same type of play to put Sunnyside up 4-0.
While pleased with the win, Sunnyside Coach Sylvia Villagrana said her team could have, should have tallied many more goals. “It was a well played game, but we were always just one touch off,” she said of near misses.
For the contest, Sunnyside was on target with an incredible 31 shots on goal.
Keeper Valeria Gudino shut down Wapato with seven saves.
Sunnyside (1-3, 5-3) returns to league action next Tuesday with a match at Wenatchee.
